Thermotex Far Infrared 12 Pad Equine Blanket Therapy System

The Thermotex far infrared equine blanket addresses may clinical disorders including myositis and horse tying up. It is the best topical heat equine therapy system on the market.

Please read the following instructions carefully for proper use of your Thermotex far infrared equine blanket.

General Step by Step Guidelines:

  • Ensure the horse is tethered before using the Thermotex far infrared equine blanket.
  • Secure the extension cord above and behind the horse.
  • The far infrared energy radiates from only one side of the heater. Place the non-padded side of the heater (the side with the Thermotex company stamp and instructions inside the outer cover) towards your horse’s body. The padded side does not heat.
  • The far infrared equine blanket has a three-position switch – low – off – high. We recommend starting each treatment on the high setting for the first 15 minutes and then changing to the low setting for the remainder of the treatment.
  • Use the far infrared therapy blanket for a minimum of 30 – 45 minutes (longer if desired). Regular use of the Thermotex therapy blanket will significantly reduce inflammation and lactic acid build up.
  • The horse will usually sweat with the first session, especially in areas that are sore. After approximately one week of use (for 1/2 hour per day) sweat areas will reduce in size as soreness is relieved.
  • If you are using the Thermotex far infrared equine blanket for a pre-event or pre-race warm up, it is most beneficial if used within four hours of the event or race.
  • If the horse has been given the diuretic Lasix, apply the infrared equine blanket after administering Lasix. The Thermotex blanket has a diuretic effect and should not be used prior to taking Lasix.
  • Check with your veterinarian if your horse is on any prescription drugs, to ensure there is no drug interaction with far infrared energy.
  • Ask your veterinarian when infrared therapy can be initiated if your horse has a recent (acute) joint injury or has a joint or joints that are chronically hot and swollen. Vigorous heating is strictly contraindicated with enclosed infections such as dental, joints or other tissues.

YOU WILL NOTICE:

  • Dramatic improvement in the mood and temperament of the horse as soreness is decreased.
  • Increased urination – the far infrared heat increases blood flow which in turn increases kidney function.
  • Injury recovery time is decreased - due to increased blood flow.
